Is Khalid Hosseini an overrated author?

Khalid Hosseini is a little over-rated author, I heard in Paris from a group of girls who conversed at the Paris airport recently. The conversation caught me when I saw them grabbing a copy of Hosseini's latest book--And the Mountains Echoed. I thought for a second whether he really is an overrated novelist. I moved a little further and waited for my flight, though I kept thinking of the books I've read of him especially The Kite Runner. It was an interesting read. But there was a problem with the novel in the later part when the love story develops. From a serious instinctive attempt apparent in the first part of the book, it traps in the pulp culture in the second half. However, I haven't read much of him later. It would be difficult to deliver verdict on his style. But The Kite Runner was a disappointment, given the popularity of the author.

I don't know about the latest novel--And The Mountains Echoed. However, I would like to read through once. I'm in partial agreement with the ladies who consider the novelist overrated. All said and done, he's a fan-following. He's learnt to cater to them. But a good author has to live the moments of the future as well. I'm sure he will.

Please share your thoughts about the author. Do you think Khalid Hosseini is a little overrated author? I look forward to your comments.
