Oh! Calcutta : Cookbook by Anjan Chatterjee hits stands

Here is a new cookbook for those who love old Bengali food. Below is not the book review but just the press note which I received from the book distributor.

Oh! Calcutta is a new cookbook about the Bengali food. Its author, Anjan Chatterjee has tried to cover all the traditional foods of old Calcutta. Named after the quintessential Bengali restaurant the book, is reminiscent of the grand old Calcutta—a city dotted with Victorian buildings, gentlemen smoking in horsedrawn buggies, elegant ladies twirling dainty parasols, and murmuring clubs.

Besides the colonial charm, this much-loved institution brings delectable Bengali food—Daab Chingri, Bhetki Machher Paturi, Kosha Mangsho, Smoked Bhetki, and the famous Ilish—right to your dinner table. Every dish features inimitable ingredients such as shorshe, kasundi, panch phoron, and poshto, to make unique and modern versions of classic fare. With tips and techniques and notes on easy cooking, Oh! Calcutta boasts to be a fascinating culinary journey into the inscrutable Bengali kitchen.

Anjan Chatterjee is a renowned restaurateur who is the founder of Mainland China. He runs India’s largest chain of fine-dining Chinese restaurants, Mainland China, with 28 outlets around the country. His first book was Mainland China.

The book is priced Rs 599 and is an imprint of Ebury Press.
