Should an author sell his book

Should authors jump into selling their own novels themselves through their online web pages? It's a queer question, you might think? Yet it has sense involved. I don't want to influence you if you are an author and have been doing so for quite some time now.

Many budding authors are trying to sell their novels through their web pages. The idea sounds good, since you're able to sell your book directly to your readers. However, a thought into this will tell you that it is probably not a good idea. I would suggest that you ask authors who have made their novels available on their webpages. I'm sure they are not making money. So the idea to sell your novel through your website sucks. It does not work, since once in a while a copy sells.

But I don't want to discourage you. You should still feature your novel on your website and put a link of the site--Amazon.com, Flipkart.com, Homeshop18.com, etc--where they can buy it. I believe most of the existing writer tribe is doing this. However, a bunch of them were still believing in themselves beyond a certain limit and selling it on their own. A number of things come into play. You certainly don't have enough books to manage logistics yourself. Secondly, you have to pay for the payment gateway. Authors are generally not experts in all of this.

While experts are there, it is better to leave it to the experts and focus on writing your next book. Too many things in hand sometimes distract you from writing the best of novels and books you're capable of.

I agree that authors need to do a bit of marketing to help his publisher sell more and popularize the book. It's important for him/her to organize reading sessions, write in the media, talk to the fans and do a bit of social networking on Facebook, Twitter, Youtube, LinkedIn, etc.
