Train yourself for rejection

Writers must learn to fail and face rejection time and again. Most of us are used to having our novels written and stored in our computers, waiting for publishers. Those who can not face rejection must not try hand at writing. They have no right to see dreams of being published very soon. In every case, you will find stories of authors, now renowned, rejected several times before finding a publisher.

Exceptions exist everywhere. But we must not live on exceptions. Our hope must live on the realism. There are a few novelists who were really fortunate enough. Hoping that you would be the next lucky lot is no harm. But chances are that you'll make it in your 10th plus submission. Or maybe never. What's the way out? I again insist. Do not rely on any online programs that promise immediate publication. Rely on the strength of your writing. Keep putting your pen into practice. It is the time you can write more creatively.

Our profession is writing. We need to do it arduously, day in and day out. As Krishna says in the Geeta, act but expect no fruit in return. A selfless act is far more powerful than the one we've hoped a lot from. It gives us the strength to move farther and farther, while an act aimed at gaining something might leave us shattered and broken. It can frustrate us, irritate us and make us less productive.

Even if the rejection rate goes no, it is not a time to stop and wait for a publisher. Plenty of options online allow today to publish books and sell. The cost is less whereas the reach is far stronger than the traditional publishers can ever offer.
