Taking a big leap forward and looking at the competition beefed by Amazon, Flipkart eBooks, which was launched in November 2012, has announced the launch of
three more apps for its users. While Flipkart’s eBooks have been available through an android app, they can now be downloaded and read through
iOS and Windows Phone apps on Windows Store as well as on a browser through a Web Reader.
Already established
in the physical books market, Flipkart is now trying to extend its
expertise and experience to the digital format as well.
Ravi Vora, Sr. VP – Marketing, has been quoted in the Press Release,“Flipkart is a clear leader
in the Indian books market with 40-45% share of the organized books
market in India. Providing seamless content, regardless of platforms,
will be a big part of our strategy to further strengthen this position
and extend it to the digital space.”
Flipkart is barely nine months old in the ebook arena. Maybe it has learnt that it is important to gel with the global trends and capitalize on the ebook market than only selling books through its ebook store. The launch of the app for various platform is a good step
Speaking about the app launch and Flipkart’s upcoming plans for eBooks,
Mekin Maheswari, Head – Payments and Digital Media, said in the press note,“Everything we do at Flipkart is about making the end-user experience
easier and more delightful. We don’t believe that the eBook experience
should be restricted to a single device. With the launch of these apps,
our eBooks titles are now accessible to all readers, no matter which
device they use. We already have 2.5 lakh titles on the site and we aim
to increase this to 10 lakhs by year-end. And all of these can now be
read by a customer, through any smartphone, tablet or PC.”
