The Top-Earning Authors Of 2013: Forbes

Authors are also creating waves in the business world with their fat pockets. The proof of this has just surfaced in Forbes list of “The Top-Earning Authors of 2013”. I know most of these authors are writing pop fiction. However, they have left some of the Hollywood celebs mortified. Forbes has featured these authors on their website recently.

One thing is sure. If authors want to be in race to make money through their writing, they can. They can surpass other lucrative careers easily. But if you ask whether there is a mantra to earn millions in this career, there is none. You rather analyse your strengths as a writer and jump in the fray. But never expect returns. They might or might not come. One thing is sure you'll have a very good writing portfolio which you can leverage at any point of time in the future.

All of these authors were ordinary people and still are. Many of them struggled to get their manuscripts published. JK Rowling had to move from pillar to post to get her Harry Potter into print. She was in debt. But today she is extremely popular and one of the best authors in the world in her space. At one point, at the peak of Harry Potter mania, there were rumours that she was even richer than Queen Elizabeth of England. I can't validate the rumours but her life is an inspiration for budding writers.

Take a look at the top-earning authors list as reports Forbes:

1. E.L. James: $95 million
2. James Patterson: $91 million
3. Suzanne Collins: $55 million

4. Bill O'Reilly: $28 million
5. Danielle Steel: $26 million
6. Jeff Kinney: $24 million
7. Janet Evanovich: $24 million
8. Nora Roberts: $23 million
9. Dan Brown: $22 million
10. Stephen King: $20 million
11. Dean Koontz: $20 million
12. John Grisham: $18 million
13. David Baldacci: $15 million
14. Rick Riordan: $14 million
15. J.K. Rowling: $13 million
16. George R.R. Martin: $12 million

Before you try to be like them, I would suggest that you be your own. All of them have their own style to cast spell on readers. Don't be copycats.
