David Gilmour fingers female writers

David Gilmour, who is a Canadian author, has made derogatory comments about female authors. Gilmour who is also a Professor, made comments in an interview to Random House blog. He said that he did not teach books written by women or Chinese authors, because he was only interested in “serious heterosexual guys”.

It is a million dollar question whether these comments are a stunt to attract attention in the media and peers or a thought instilled in an orthodox mind. The show of such pettiness will certainly not go well with female authors and he would have face criticism from many authors per se. Not only, he might face comments from established male counterparts.

Sometimes such comments are seen as the pressure put by a flurry of female authors who have been successful, famous and are having more followers than males. Similar comments emerged from the Nobel Prize winner VS Naipaul in 2011. He had to go through ire of women writers in response.

It would be in favour of the literary world, if author spend writing good stuff rather than indulging in mudslinging. It is a waste of time. Every author has his/her style which their readers like. Let readers and critics decide who's good or bad with the pen. They should spend time crafting stories, tales, characters, plots, etc.
