Indian author shot dead by Taliban in Afghanistan

Talibans are uncouth, uncivilized morons. And the proof is the murder of Indian author Sushmita Banerjee, whose memoir about her dramatic escape from the Taliban was made into a Bollywood film. She was married to an Afghan and had recently gone back to Afghanistan to live with her husband. But it is sad that she was welcomed like this and shot dead by militants.

Culture seems beyond the understanding of the Taliban. There is no respect of music, art and writing. Banerjee was 49. Let us all pray for her soul and hope that one day the uncivilized minds will know the importance of writing, culture and humanness.

Taliban militants, according to a report published by The Times of India, arrived at her home in the provincial capital of Kharana, tied up her husband and other members of the family, took Banerjee out and shot her.  Later the murderers dumped Banerjee's body near a religious school.

The author was also known as Sayed Kamala and was working as a health worker in Paktika. She was playing an active role to better the lives of Afgan women. She had been filming the lives of local women as part of her work

Banerjee's book "Kabuliwalar Bangali Bou" (A Kabuliwala's Bengali Wife), about her escape from the Taliban in 1995, was a runaway success in India and was turned into the Bollywood film "Escape From Taliban" in 2003. .
